Historical synthesis:
In 1960 the card was placed at the initiative of the municipal PCC, fulfilling the orientation of building monuments to pay tribute to victims of tyranny.
Construction was carried out by local bricklayers. In a mass political act it was inaugurated that same year with the participation of members of the municipal PCC.
Personalities:
Gregorio Carine Rivero. He was born on December 24, 1911 in Los Arabos. Her parents Felipe and Ángela of peasant origin. Since he was little he had to work to help the large family. In 1956 he established relations with the M.26-7 collaborating in hiding, favored by his work as a hunting guide, which allowed him to help the rebels. He is surprised and captured by the Rural Guard. On October 24, 1958, he was found hanged in Minas de Motembo.
José María Duarte Oquendo: Born on January 6, 1912 in Los Arabos. Son of Emiliano and María Antonia, both of peasant origin. His childhood was spent in the same place where he was born, where he attended the 5th grade. He began to work in agricultural tasks to help his parents. He marries Carmela Comas. Settling in the same town, he acquires a line bus, which later changes into a road bus to make trips to the town of Corralillo. In 1956 it was linked to the M.26.7 in Santa Clara.
On April 11, 1958, he was arrested, searched, and found no evidence. On his return to Los Arabos, the day itself he was assassinated by minions of tyranny.
