The Cuban Minister of Health, José Angel Portal Miranda, announced today in Matanzas new protocols to deal with COVID-19, which speed up the diagnosis and treatment of positive cases. Portal Miranda explained that taking into account the high reliability of the antigen tests (more than 92% in all of Cuba and more than 95% in Matanzas), it was decided to consider confirmed
cases of COVID-19 in all symptomatic patients, detected through said tests.
Based on this diagnosis, the health authority specified, the Nasalferon begins to be applied, and people are transferred to a confirmed isolation center, thus taking advantage of the time for treatment. In the event that the antigen test is negative in patients with symptoms of the disease who are contacts of positive cases or come from areas of epidemiological complexity, then a PCR is performed. According to the protocol, if the antigen test is negative and the person has symptoms, but is not a confirmed contact, the test is repeated after 48 hours, and if the result is the same, a PCR is done.
