CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF LOS ARABOS
Wildlife
There is an endemic species: the rabiche pigeon. In a prominent place is occupied by cattle, among other animals, as in the rest of the country.
Flora
In this town there were forests with precious woods such as: Mahogany, Majagua, Cedar, Acana, Ocuje, which is very abundant to this day, the Pine. It is common to find in fences and boundaries the Florido tree, the Flamboyán, the Cardones, Güiras, to a lesser extent the Alamos, some Ceibas and we greatly appreciate the majestic Royal Palm. Of fruit trees we have some important ones such as guava, mango, and others. Pineapples and bananas are grown in different areas. Other crops such as sweet potato, cassava, corn, tomato, etc. stand out.
Relief
The territory that the municipality occupies is flat with small elevations ranging from 40 meters to 60 meters located mainly in its North - Northeast area where the highest points are located, which are 105 m and 104 m above sea level. (543,175 E - 327,750 N and 540,175 E - 325,775 N respectively.)
The predominant images are the sparse mountains and some large palm groves that still remain, although the large expanses of forest species in the Santa Lucia and Cayo Mamones area present pleasant views, not being in the areas surrounding the Sugar Company "Mario Muñoz" .
Weather
The prevailing winds are from the Northwest and East Franco quadrants with a higher annual frequency from the Northeast headings
The annual average temperature is 24 0 C, reaching the minimum average temperatures of 130C and 34 0C respectively.
The precipitations oscillate between 1400 - 1500 mm, existing notable differences between the dry period (November - April) in which 200 - 250 mm are registered and the wet period (May - October) that reach 1200 - 1300 mm.
Floors
The territory is located in a karst plain and to a lesser degree, karst, on limestone rocks and clayey limestones, its soils are ferralitic brown with 63209 ha, (96% of the total) and deep hydromorphic reds with 2821 ha, (4% of the total).
Hydrography
The Los Arabos hydrogeological basement is located in the basin sections M-III-7, MV-1, M-VI-1, M-VI-2 with 67% of the territory on non-aquiferous rocks and due to its low relief, the construction of reservoirs are difficult. The watery surface occupies an area of 1744 ha: of them 161 ha in canals, this surface representing 2% of the municipal total.
